Rachel Gene Stern and Matthew Frederick DeJong are to be married July 1 at the Bridgeport Art Center in Chicago. Rabbi Ari Moffic is to officiate.

Ms. Stern, 31, who will be taking her husband’s name, is an English teacher at the High School for Math, Science, and Engineering on the campus of City College in New York. She graduated from the University of Michigan and received a master’s degree in education from Columbia.

She is the daughter of Rhonda Stern and Skip Stern of Chicago. The bride’s father retired as a partner in the Chicago law firm Sidley & Austin. He is a managing director at CanAm Enterprises, a financial firm in New York. Her mother retired as a lawyer in private practice in Chicago.

Mr. DeJong, 32, is a dean of students and special education liaison and mathematics teacher at the High School of Art and Design in New York. He graduated from West Virginia University and received a master’s degree in education from Brooklyn College.

He is a son of Kathleen DeJong and Gary DeJong, both of Fairmont, W.V. The groom’s mother is the payroll secretary at Monongahela Valley Association Centers, Fairmont Clinic. His father, a former Fairmont police officer, works as a lead security officer at Fairmont State University.

The couple met in 2012 while they were both teachers at the High School of Art and Design.
