Dr. Katelyn Tara Scharf and Joseph Max Lichterman are to be married June 3 at Congregation Shaarey Zedek in Southfield, Mich. Rabbi Avi D. Friedman, the groom’s uncle, is to officiate, with Rabbi Norman T. Roman, to take part.
Ms. Scharf, 26, who will be taking her husband’s name, is a first-year anesthesiology resident at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore. She graduated from the University of Michigan and received a medical degree from Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia.
She is the daughter of Susan Kirsch Scharf of Commerce Township, Mich. The bride’s mother is a case manager for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan in Detroit.
Mr. Lichterman, 27, is a senior business associate at the Lenfest Institute for Journalism, the nonprofit organization that owns The Philadelphia Inquirer, Philadelphia Daily News and Philly.com.
