Tiger commits to The Open at Carnoustie

Tiger Woods has confirmed that he will play in The Open this July at Carnoustie.

“I won two of my Open Championships in Scotland and the other one in England, so let’s try and add another one in there,” Woods said via The Open’s Twitter account.

It will mark Woods’ first appearance at The Open since 2015, when he missed the cut. He has three career victories in the event, the last coming in 2006 at Royal Liverpool.

Woods, 42, did not play in any of the majors in 2016 and 2017 because of back problems, which resulted in multiple surgeries. He returned to major-championship golf at the Masters in April and finished tied for 32nd.

His start at The Open will be his 20th during his career, during which he’s won 14 major titles. In his two appearances at Carnoustie, Woods has finished seventh (1999) and 12th (2007).

Jordan Spieth won last year’s event at Royal Birkdale. The 2018 Open will begin July 19.
